Historic Cities

The Brasília region encompasses several satellite cities that together form the Federal District, offering a variety of cultural, historical and natural attractions. In addition to Brasília, a modern and planned capital, Taguatinga stands out as an important commercial and service center. Ceilândia, in turn, is known for its rich popular culture, with strong northeastern influences. Águas Claras stands out for its contemporary architecture and vibrant nightlife. Samambaia and Sobradinho are also important residential and commercial centers, each with their own particularities, forming a dynamic and constantly growing region.

In addition to the cities of the Federal District, the Brasília region is surrounded by surrounding municipalities that have great historical, cultural and natural relevance. Planaltina, one of the oldest cities in the region, has the historic site of the old Planaltina and celebrates important religious traditions. Pirenópolis is famous for its preserved colonial heritage and the traditional Cavalhadas. The city of Goiás, the former capital of the state, is a World Heritage Site, known for its cobblestone streets and colonial buildings. Corumbá de Goiás enchants with its natural scenery, with waterfalls and trails. Luziânia, a few kilometers from Brasília, combines history and urban development. Formosa stands out for its natural wealth, with the famous Itiquira Waterfall and spectacular caves. Cristalina, as the name suggests, is known for its crystal extraction and beautiful rural landscapes. These surrounding cities complement regional tourism, offering varied itineraries that combine history, nature and culture.

Planaltina-DF

In the Federal District, 42 km from Plano Piloto, access via DF-230 and DF-130, following the North exit. A historic city, it is linked to the history of Brasília because it was on the nearby Morro do Centenário that the cornerstone of the future capital of the country was laid on September 7, 1922. Its most important festival is the staging of the Stations of the Cross on Morro da Capelinha, with 1,250 actors and extras, attracting an audience of around 200,000 people. It is held every year on Good Friday.

Pirenópolis-GO

Located 168 km from Brasília, with access via BR-070, its attractions are the historic buildings of colonial architecture, such as the main church, and the traditional popular festivals, including the Festa do Divino Espirito Santo, which takes place 45 days after Holy Week. With its horse riding, it is considered one of the greatest folkloric attractions in South America. The Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Rosário was built between 1728 and 1732 by slaves. It is the oldest church in Goiás.

Cidade de Goiás-GO

Formerly known as Goiás Velho, it is located 340 km from Brasília, with access via BR-070. The city has remained virtually untouched for over 200 years and is intertwined with the history of the state of Goiás. The best-known festival is the Fogaréu Procession, held on the Wednesday of Holy Week. The procession of the Boa Morte Church, a building completed in 1779 that features Baroque elements, is also held. Another important church is Santa Bárbara, which has a viewpoint offering one of the most beautiful views of the city of Goiás, the former capital of the state of Goiás.

Corumbá de Goiás - GO

Saída pela Via Estrutural, seguindo pela BR-024. Distante 159 km de Brasília. A cidade, com 266 anos, possui rico folclore de herança cristã portuguesa. A igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Penha, de 1751, é um dos mais antigos patrimônios de Goiás, guarda em seu interior imagens barrocas e neoclássicas de beleza impressionante trazidas da Europa.

Cristalina - GO

It is located on top of almost endless deposits of quartz crystals. The biggest attraction is Pedra do Chapéu, a huge granite block weighing 45 tons. Another attraction is Ribeirão das Lajes, a tourist complex with good infrastructure.

Luziânia - GO

Access via BR-040, 60 km from Brasília, via the South Exit. A city from the time of the bandeirantes, it maintains traditional religious traditions. Its two main churches, the Matriz and the Rosário, were

Formosa/GO

The town emerged in the 17th century, founded by prospectors in search of gold. In addition to the Salto de Itiquira, which is its biggest attraction, the most visited place in the city is the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Location following the North Exit, on BR-020. 80 km from Brasília - DF.
