Room Tax

The "room tax" – tourism tax – is charged on hotel stays. It is a common fee in Europe and in cities in Brazil that have Convention & Visitors Bureaus (C&VB). It is charged to guests, not the hotels, and aims to help C&VBs achieve their objectives.

The room tax varies from city to city and also by different hotel categories. Thus, associated hotels may charge a tourism tax ranging from R$ 2.00 to R$ 3.00 per day per room.

​

Similar to other costs mentioned (such as the investment from founders and the fees from members), the room tax is set by C&VB members in an assembly.

​

In Brasília, the room tax is set at R$ 3.00 per day per room.

Who controls and manages the C&VB?

The control and management of a C&VB are carried out by its own members, through representatives specifically designated for this purpose.

 

Additionally, a C&VB also has a technical and administrative support team that acts as the executive body of the administration.

​

External control is exercised by the Public Prosecutor's Office and also by independent auditors.
